Phyllis Weingarten, MD
Dr. Weingarten founded Rockland iCare in April of 2015 with a primary focus on Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus. A life-long New Yorker, Dr. Weingarten graduated from the City College of New York, CUNY Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, Magna Cum Laude, and New York Medical College. Dr. Weingarten completed her internal medicine internship at Lenox Hill Hospital; served as Chief Resident and completed her Residency in Ophthalmology at Brookdale Hospital & Medical Center; and was a visiting surgeon at Aravind Eye Hospital in Tamil Nadu, India. Subsequently Dr. Weingarten completed two fellowships: The Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital Fellowship in Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology; and Downstate Medical Center at SUNY Fellowship in Pediatric & Adult Strabismus
Prior to starting Rockland iCare in 2015, Dr. Weingarten practiced at Pomona Eye Associates for twenty-three years where she concentrated on pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Dr. Weingarten performs surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York, and New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.
Dr. Weingarten has been recognized as one of the top pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus practitioners in the lower Hudson Valley/Greater Metropolitan New York City regions. Amongst her many accolades she has achieved the following recognitions: America’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly; America’s Top Ophthalmologists by Consumer Research Council of America; Top Doctors by Westchester Magazine; and Partners in Health Award, Bikur Cholim of Rockland County.
Dr. Weingarten is a member of the Greater New York Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Ophthalmology Association and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus.
Dr. Weingarten lives in Wesley Hills, New York, where she has raised three children and enjoys spending her free time hiking the trails of Harriman State Park and traveling.
Shirah Schwartz-Jacobs, MD
Dr. Schwartz-Jacobs is a board certified and fellowship trained pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon. She is originally from Brooklyn, NY and she graduated from Columbia University with a major in biology and anthropology. After receiving her Medical Degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Schwartz completed an internship at North Shore University Hospital’s Department of Medicine and then completed a three-year residency in ophthalmology at North Shore Long-Island Jewish hospital where, in her final year, she was selected to be chief resident of the program. Following her residency, Dr. Schwartz worked as a fellow in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one of the nation’s top training programs for this subspecialty.
Dr. Schwartz-Jacobs is the author of many articles published in medical journals and has made presentations at medical meetings across the country. She has a particular interest in the treatment of capillary hemangiomas, myopia and retinopathy of prematurity. She specializes in the most up-to-date modalities in the treatment of pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Dr. Schwartz-Jacobs is affiliated with New York Langone Medical Center, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai and Good Samaritan Hospital.
She has been selected as a Rising Star in the New YorkTimes Super Doctor publication.
Dr. Schwartz-Jacobs currently lives in Westchester County with her husband and three children and enjoys adventure travel in her free time.
Rachel L. Langer, OD
Dr. Langer joined Rockland iCare in January, 2016. Dr. Langer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Barnard College and earned her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry.
Prior to joining the practice Dr. Langer worked at Lasik Vision Institute, where she evaluated patients to determine eligibility for laser surgery and performed pre- and post-operative exams. Dr. Langer also worked at Amazing Eyes where she practiced primary care optometry including refraction, fundus exams, contact lens fitting and treatment of diseases of the eye. She also worked in the practice of Dr. Jacob Nachum, OD, where she conducted all facets of the optometry practice, including management of Lasik cases, treatment of eye diseases, and all aspects of contact lens fitting including multifocals and RGPs.
Dr. Langer lives in Northern New Jersey with her husband and four children.
